The Challenge
Before The Willo Shops could open its doors, an outdated medical building had to come down first. Once demolition was complete and construction began, Ten Six was one of five general contractors simultaneously building out the 14,000-square-foot center, each working on a different tenant space. Tenant contractors started building out their interiors before construction was even complete, with 40 to 50 cars in the parking lot on any given day. Keeping the project on track while five crews worked simultaneously took careful coordination from day one.
The Solution
Ten Six Construction managed the project from demolition through final finishes. The exterior features distinctive architectural block work that sets the center apart from standard retail construction—a deliberate design choice that gives the building a premium look and feel.
The building’s design presented its own structural challenge. The corners of the building are glass, which created floating corners that required careful engineering to properly support the walls above. The architectural drawings provided a framework, but the real-world execution required Joe and his team to problem-solve to ensure everything came together structurally sound.
Every challenge—from the structural engineering to the coordination of five concurrent build-outs—was met with the same commitment to delivering a finished product worthy of the tenants it was built to attract.
The Result
The finished product is a 14,000-square-foot Class A retail center that has already attracted premier tenants, including First Watch, Smoothie King, Crumbl Cookies, University Hospitals Urgent Care, and Charleys Cheesesteaks—a testament to the quality of the finished product and the kind of tenants a Class A retail center attracts. What was once an outdated, vacant medical building is now a cornerstone of the Willoughby commercial landscape, built from the ground up with the kind of craftsmanship and attention to detail that defines every Ten Six project.
